Pinewood Derby

Log was anxious to participate in the Pinewood Derby this year. Having enjoyed himself during the whittling achievement, he opted to hand carve his car. Last year, we learned the fastest cars where typically paper thin, heavily weighted, and featured wheels lubed with graphite.

Log diligently worked on his car (without injury!), and the resulting car was none of the above. He could not be persuaded to make any adjustments. Log painted his car black, painted on some mean-looking eyes, and dubbed it 'Bullet Bill.'

On the day of the derby, J and I hoped that Bullet Bill would perform because Log had worked so hard. Amazingly, Bullet Bill didn't disappoint, and we watched with pride as Bullet Bill won his first several heats. Bullet Bill wasn't the fanciest or sharpest looking car on the track, but he was lovingly made by Log.

Overall, the bells and whistle-free Bullet Bill placed third overall. Log was awarded a medal and ribbon and positively beamed!

On pins and needles waiting for the final races!

Bullet Bill in second place during the second to last heat!
