Week In Review

* Kept awake until 0200 by party that took place in our courtyard.  The party was interesting as people came in costume (Abe Lincoln?, a fairy, lots of goddesses, a cowgirl, and so on) and danced like characters from Charlie Brown to early 80's music like the Buggles, consumed an inordinate amount of alcohol, put a purple to strobe light to use (made my house flash purple; flashing purple lights make for a smashing headache when coupled with bad 80's music), and featured a deejay whose catch phrase, "Yeah, Oh Yeah" was employed at the end of each song. The kids were fascinated by the party;  Log thought that as everyone wore costumes that I had forgotten Halloween and cried for nearly half an hour.  The kids watched the party from our living room and had their picture taken repeatedly by drunk guests.  The party was decorated with florescent daisies and inflatable palm trees anchored in a paddling pool.  Just after midnight, someone thought it would be a good idea to introduce live chickens to the mix, and clucking was added to the overall ambiance.  A guest must have been hungover for the week as my parking spot was only made available to me yesterday.  I am worried about having neighbors who party with livestock.

* Lost heat; slept in full on winter gear.

* Heat repaired; tropical temperatures ensued, but lost five pounds in water weight!

* Opened windows to cool house while heat ran continuously; invaded by a plaque of flies and hope no more plagues follow.  As distasteful as the following image is, I felt like the kids and I could have featured in a 'Feed the African Children' commercial as flies landed on our eyes and lips as we ate (luckily, they have a short life span and are dying off).

* Lost hot water; learned that when shaving in a cold shower, hair seems to instantly reappear simultaneously with goose bumps.  A cold water rinse does not really make your hair shiny. Children can scream at the highest of pitches when forced to take a cold shower.

* Lost internet/phone capabilities so completely reliant on use of library's computer.  Will not have word about phone until 29 September and hoping that the German efficiency myth proves true.

* Driver's side door of Montana fell off today.  Spent whole of Saturday at a repair shop. Climbing through passenger side door, felt like the only thing I needed to make the picture complete was to have a window break so that I could apply plastic wrap and duct tape to van. Driver's side passenger door fails to close; the sensor apparently detects an invisible object and the door reopens itself.  Have learned where the fuse for the driver's side passenger door is and no longer allow the children to use that door.  Feel like taking a hammer to the car.

* Sat through meeting with the director of Charlotte's school and was forced to mime 'pressure equalization tubes' and felt a fool.

* On a positive note, have best cheerleader/listener in my corner; thanks, J!  Praying for better things next week!  Thanks for telling us about nonoh, Jules!
