Ladies Night

Tuesday night, three friends and I fought our way through traffic on Henry Hudson Parkway and made our way into Manhattan for an adult evening. After parking, we walked to the Lyceum Theatre, the oldest broadway play house, to retrieve our tickets at the box office. In a stroke of good luck, a cancellation had just been made, and our tickets were upgraded to the sixth row of the orchestra section: front and center.

Tickets in hand, we hailed a cab to SOHO and made a pitstop at Grom, an Italian gelateria.

Bellies full of Ecuadorian chocolate and stracciatella, we made our way to Greenwich Village and a booksigning by Parisian author Clotilde Dusoulier, who spoke of her new book, answered questions, and graciously spoke to everyone.

By this time, we were pressed to travel 40 blocks back to the theatre before the bell. Stuck in traffic at our cross street, we ditched the cab and hoofed it (in heels) to the theatre. As we were running, the most diminutive of the four of us, called on her inner Italian and barked for other pedestrians to move out of the way as we passed. We were escorted to our seats and had no sooner sat down when the lights dimmed.

We attended 'MacBeth' featuring Patrick Stewart (Jean Luc Picard to most of us) in the lead. The production, highly acclaimed, made its way to NY from London's West End in February to rave reviews. I'll spare you my estimation and allow you to read a review here (with which I am in full agreement), though I will say the players and show were spectacular.

After the show, my friends and I waited outside and were fortunate enough to see and speak to Mr. Stewart, who was quite gracious. Unfortunately, caught in the moment, we failed to offer our playbills to him and managed to snap one picture as he entered his car.

Undeterred by the time, we went to Carmine's for a family style Italian dinner before returning home at 0300.
