Denmark

Our time in Denmark was brief but fun. The bulk of our day was spent in Copenhagen at the Christmas market held in the Tivoli Gardens. The day was bitingly cold, so cold that I felt my joints aching.

J walking down a shopping corridor; the tunnel acted as a much needed wind barrier.

In Scandinavia, Santa Claus wears his hat well over his eyes so that only his nose is visible. In fact, he looks like a gnome. The kiddos thought this was hilarious! *Note Log's Deutschland scarf. He made J and I laugh last week as he was telling us about striking up a 'foreign' pen-pal as part of a Language Arts project. Turns out the boy is from Florida ;)

This market is known for its pixies which are really little puppets set up in different winter landscapes.

Yummy waffles

The little mermaid statue was fashioned after a ballerina. The girls really loved this landmark and its nod to H.C. Andersen.
That evening, we drove to Odense, the home of Hans Christian Andersen. Bop chose to eat at a Mongolian Barbecue restaurant for her birthday. The town was charming, and the kids were delighted to come across a statue of The Brave Tin Soldier , a favorite tale of ours.
