This year was an off-year; a year where we celebrate birthdays as a family giving the birthday girl or boy autonomy to choose meals and activities for the day. Bop chose her favorite chicken sun-dried tomato pasta dish and a Swiss chocolate cake which could send a non-diabetic into a catatonic coma. We played board games Bop favors and watched a tween movie. Bop also chose to trim the tree that evening despite the German custom that it shouldn't be decorated until Christmas Eve.
Thanks to all who shared in her day and made her feel incredibly special. Uncle J and Aunt N - she's been perusing Amazon like mad so that she buys just the right thing!
J and I visited a German discount store where I found "sparkler candles." Thinking it would be a pretty addition to Bop's homespun cake, I bought them. Lesson to be gleaned from this: be wary of discount sparkler candles. Anything that costs pennies and contains a flammable material is probably less than safe. When lit, the two cannons shot sparks like roman candles, hissing and popping as they did so. Smoke filled our dining room, and Bop shrank back...in fear. The two candles burned themselves out after a minute or so but were too hot to handle for a time afterward.
Aunt J and Uncle S hit the nail on the head with a make-up bag filled with goodies! Grandma P and Grandpa M - these items quickly filled her wookie purse.
Bop loved Grandma M's and Grandpa J's chi-chi (Littlest's word for VERY chic items) Parisian themed shirt!
Shhh...don't tell but she still likes to play with 'kid' toys, too!
This particular gift was something she'd seen at the Christmas market, and she was overjoyed to have received it. It's a stuffed animal filled with rice and lavender and requires heating in the microwave. It' a bit discombobulating seeing a cute stuffed dog spinning round in the microwave, but the results are nice: a pleasantly aromatic, warm animal you can cuddle.
