Ice Skating

We recently went to an outdoor ice skating rink in Wiesbaden where the kiddos enjoyed themselves despite the arctic-like temperatures and occasional spills on the ice. The rink was located very near to the State Theater, and several vendors had erected wooden stalls from which one could buy hot beverages and light fare. The venue was kind enough to place fire pits around the rink's perimeter, and Littlest spent a great deal of time warming herself there. Log was enthralled with the Zamboni, and Catherine waited impatiently for the new sheet of water to freeze enough to allow skating.

Apologies for the small video: learning curve for exporting iMovie projects.

Bop fared best of all after she found her center of balance on the blades. She made many laps on her own, which was a significant feat considering the amount of traffic on the ice and many other young skaters. In fact, as other children slipped on the ice, they were indiscriminate and grabbed at the coat hems of anyone within an arm's reach causing pile ups of falling skaters.

Log had a definite swagger about him as he navigated the rink. He managed to walk more than glide! He found himself prostate a few times but recovered quickly to avoid crushed hands and accidental jabs from passersby.

Littlest was more comfortable when behind her penguin, which provided stability and balance that she lacked otherwise (though she walked on the wooden platforms well enough on her own).
