Le Mont Saint Michel

We've had Le Mont Saint Michel on our list of places to visit for some time.  We've adopted a new attitude as of late: JUST GO!  And we did.

The causeway is flooded at high tide making it impossible to reach the village and abbey by car.  The site has recently reclaimed island status.

These poor kiddos have a mama that always faces them toward the sun when taking pictures!

Fewer than 50 people make their home here.  The island is fortified and has been used as a prison in the past.

Oh, the climb to the abbey!

The archangel Michael sits atop the abbey's highest point.

These monkeys were pretending to use Floo Powder ;)

We lunched on the island at La Sirene, and it was divine.  Here, everyone is watching J's flaming crepe; the server poured an entire pot of lit Calvados onto the crepe.  The alcohol burned for nearly two minutes!  J wouldn't share either.

I also have to mention this.  I think J has been inspired to try and speak French by the kiddos who are now able to conduct some basic business in French.  This is what happened when J tried:  he somehow ordered grapefruit flavored non-alcoholic beer!  Bleck!

The alleyway is a tight spot!
