London Holiday Break

For the second year running, we traveled to London for the week preceding Christmas. The city is decorated with fairy lights, the air smells like mince pies, and carolers are to be heard everywhere. The city is enchanting.

This year, Log dictated that quite a bit of our time was spent discovering the Imperial War Musuems including the War Rooms, IWM London and Duxford. We also sat in on a Christmas concert practice at St Martin in the Fields, attended an enactment of Dickens' A Christmas Carol (this was really superb despite its location being in Greenwich and the theatre's entrance being ensconced in a pub), saw the Christmas windows at Harrod's (not as good this year...sponsored by Swarovski and fell short of last year's Peter Pan themed windows), went to Hyde Park's Winter Wonderland (which we discovered was brought in from Hamburg, Germany!), and went to see the Norwegian tree in Trafalgar square.

The girls wanted to go to the Ministry of Magic.

IWM London; Log next to a scouting uniform.  Log was able to talk to a man who was nine years old at the outbreak of the war and heard his first hand account of the bombings.

The kids each had an audio guide for the war rooms, and Littlest dutifully listened to hers at each learning point.
