Prior to the ceremony, Log was allowed to sit with us for a few minutes during which time he repeatedly expressed his excitement (about being promoted to first grade but also about the freedom summer offers). Once all of the details were in place, Log assumed his position and quietly sat as his teacher and the principal recognized the kindergartners' many accomplishments during the academic year. This year was not without its tribulations: his teacher was unexpectedly moved from the comforts of her 1/2 day preschool class to the kindergarten room which resulted in some curriculum juggling and the addition of Matty to our family had a noticeable impact on Log in the classroom. Despite the bumps in the road, Log performed well.
After the singing and recitations, the students were called one by one to the front to accept diplomas. Littlest cheered quite loudly for her brother, and Bop excused herself from her classroom to show support. After the formal portion, parents and students were invited to partake in refreshments and gather artwork and other mementos.
Log, who is usually reserved, was visibly excited and proud as were we. Honestly, I found it hard to believe that my little boy is set to start first grade. Way to go, Log!
