Hiking Storm King Mountain

Sunday afternoon, J and the kiddos hiked the Stillman Trail on Storm King Mountain, shown at left. The top of the mountain affords sweeping views of the Hudson River and lower Hudson valley.

The kiddos hiked to an elevation of approximately 1,300 feet before taking a snack break and descending.

Log and littlest love to hike and appear to have a natural ability when it comes to endurance, while Bop loves to scout the area for wildlife and vegetation. Matty, unused to walking on rocks and climbing, found the hike a bit difficult and fell often. Unlike most people who have a natural instinct to brace themselves as they fall, Matty makes no attempt to catch himself and falls flatly with arms stretched above his head. As a result, Matty's shins, knees and head show a few scratches and bumps, some of which he acquired through a sort of innate clumsiness on his part when not hiking.

The hike made for a lengthy nap, which afforded Mama and Daddy some quiet time!

Hillarys in the making

Reprieve!
