Malta

Rather than drone on, I'll link to Malta in the event you want to read about its history which is more interesting than one might think. On the cruise, we were fortunate enough to have a Professor of Humanities who gave a lecture pertaining to the Knights of St. John and the history of this strategically located island nation.

Malta is known for things other than falcons; in particular, Malta is known for its delicate silver filigree work.

Public transportation is done by two means: buses like the one shown below or horse and carts.

Maltese balconies are lovely.

Detail of inside of St. John's Co-Cathedral, a baroque church that appears fortress like from the outside but quite beautiful once inside. The cathedral houses two magnificent canvases by Caravaggio one of which is the graphic depiction of John the Baptist's beheading. In the painting, Caravaggio shows John's head in state that isn't completely severed. The work is the only one Caravaggio signed and was specifically painted for the cathedral's oratory.

Remnant of the British, who once ruled Malta. Though there is a local dialect, English is one of the country's official languages.
