Science Fair

Despite my emphasis on the liberal arts, the kiddos remain phlegmatic and much prefer the sciences (save for littlest who is my bookworm).

Bop and Log recently participated in their school's science fair and entered their project, "You Are What You Eat," which won a science award. Their project tested the idea that plants absorb chemical compounds in water. Using food coloring and several types of flowers, the kiddos proved their hypothesis as the plants absorbed the dye. Daddy wanted the kiddos to go one step further and discuss isotopes, but thankfully that fell to the wayside.

J and several colleagues set up hands-on exhibits at the science fair. J managed the most popular exhibit of the evening, a hovercraft, which demonstrated surface friction or lack thereof. J's exhibit consisted of a leaf blower attached to a piece of plywood which was covered by a tarp on the underside. Once plugged in, the plywood morphed into a hovercraft, and J wheeled approximately 100 kids, three and four at a time, around the room by the cord.
