Aristotle said, "The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet." Our bitter roots consisted of early wake ups, but it will be sweet to watch my children bloom this year!
Though Bop was delighted by the notion of being reunited with friends, Log was reluctant to enter the world of 'sight words' and homework. Meanwhile, littlest relished having her own backpack, or 'packpack' if you ask her.
Bop's enthusiasm was soon stunted as her arms were laden with multiple textbooks. Gone are the days of snack time and naps, but the world of reading will reveal itself to her over the year, and that is no insignificant consolation. My first baby is a first grader: unimaginable.
Log's apprehensions about leaving his preschool cocoon waned when he discovered a slide in his classroom, though he has cried every morning as he's exited the van.
Littlest took delight in donning her Dora backpack and assumed air of independence.
As all of my children now attend school, I think back on my own school days and the notion of time flying has never been more pertinent.
Bop's first day of first grade
(Those of you who've watched Veggie Tales may be tempted to sing, "Now, Billy Jo McGruffy....")
Little man no more; a bona fide kindergartener Littlest's first day of preschool
