Bicycle Rodeo

This morning, from 1000-1200, the kiddos participated in a bicycle rodeo. At the rodeo, policemen inspected the bicycles to assess safety and then the kiddos' bicycle savvy was put to the test: they had to complete a series of skill set stations.

Boppy, Log and our littlest had to demonstrate that they could perform the following skills: mounting and balancing, emergency stopping, riding in a straight line, signaling and circling and changing directions.

Because Boppy has just learned to ride on two wheels, the idea of steering her bicycle with one hand while coordinating hand signals was a bit daunting; otherwise, she did very well. Log pedaled along at his own slow and steady pace and the idea of hand signals was completely lost on him. Our littlest scarecly pedaled on her own (Daddy was obliging) and skirted her way through the stations on charm and smiles.

Upon "completing" all of the stations, the kiddos were awarded a certificate and a bicycle bell for their efforts. As a bonus, each child received a raffle ticket for prize drawings. Boppy won a bicycle, but reminiscent of "Goldilocks and the Three Bears", one bicycle was too large and the other too small, so she picked out a new helmet. Log also won a helmet, but it's a bit too small (he does have J's head, you know). Our littlest walked away empty-handed, but she didn't seem to mind.
