After spending time in Venice, we drove to Verona so that we could visit Giulietta's tomb and home. There were many references to this ill-fated pair but none to the two gentlemen; pity. Prior to traveling, the kids read through Shakespeare for Kids version of Romeo and Juliet (I highly recommend this series).
I was initially skeptical of Verona's appeal as we entered the area near to Juliet's tomb because of the dilapidation and general unkempt appearance, but I became enamored of the city once we walked through the old town/city center. I have to mention that we ate Mexican food while here; Bop thought this was sacrilegious.

While in Verona, we met up with Sarah and her friend Veronica, both of whom are two of Juliet's secretaries! It seems a great deal of the secretaries are college students who respond to the hundreds of thousands of letters left by love-lorn men and women for something like $0.68 per letter. Bop enjoyed a tour of the secretaries' office (not quite as beautiful as that pictured in the movie but interesting nonetheless). Sarah had the spent the previous day with us in Venice and was delightful. Sarah and Veronica gave the girls stickers, stationary, a music CD and allowed them to flip through and read the most moving letters that they've received. Incidentally, all letters mailed to Juliet are kept! We were sure to leave one of our own and anxiously await Juliet's response!

The balcony :) J got into a bit of a verbal altercation with one of the docents at this museum because she forbade reentry if J left to take a picture of us on the balcony. She didn't relent, but we did get our picture on the way out!

Many people touch Juliet's netherparts as they pose with her statue. I'm not sure what sort of good luck people think this will bestow especially if they recall she committed suicide!
